Homely Dales bed and breakfast

If you’re looking for homely bed and breakfast accommodation within an old stone cottage in a beautiful and quiet Yorkshire Dales setting, with hearty food, West Winds is very likely the place for you.

Breakfast at West Winds

We hope you’ll agree that West Winds is ideal for a restful stay. We are situated in a quiet location away from the main road and can almost guarantee a night silent of traffic and other urban noise. Outside are dark night skies unspoilt by city-glow with, depending on the weather of course, panoramic views of the stars.

But staying at West Winds is more than just a bed for the night. When you arrive, we provide a welcoming pot of tea and home-made cake in our tearooms and in your room you’ll find fresh flowers, complimentary Yorkshire-made Whitaker’s chocolates and a help-yourself bowl of organic fruit.

All guest rooms have central heating and a television. The rooms are not ensuite but there is a wash basin in your room and a shared bathroom is close by. A tea/coffee tray allows you to make a drink at any time, for which we provide fresh organic milk.

You can take an evening meal in our tearooms (last orders for residents is at 7pm) and if it’s a fine evening you can sit out in the tea-garden, take a stroll down by the river or try Dales beers in one of the local pubs. Please note that the Buck Inn in the village is open for drinks only at the moment. There is also a small licensed restaurant in Buckden (open until 8pm, booking advisable).

You can look forward to a wide range of breakfast options in the morning, perhaps a full English or vegetarian English, home-made beans with toast or maybe a ‘Dales Continental’ option featuring tasty Yorkshire cheeses or Yockenthwaite Farm Granola with natural yoghurt and Yorkshire honey. It's all served in our tearooms at a table set with bone china on a hand-embroidered cloth. Breakfast is served between 8am and 9am.

Our packed lunches are also popular and reasonably priced. We can provide a choice of sandwiches with home-made scone, home-made cake and fruit, and we’ll also happily fill up your flask with a hot drink from the kitchen, free of charge.

...Guest bedrooms...

Double room at West Winds

We have three guest bedrooms:

Our double room looks out across the valley towards the fells above Redmire Wood. It is full of character with some fine old furniture and pleasant paintings. The price for the room, including breakfast, is £58 for two people or £34 for one person for one night. If you stay longer, on the second night the price comes down to £48 for two people or £29 for one person.

We have two single rooms, one at the side of the house and the other at the rear looking up towards Buckden Ghyll. The price for either room, including breakfast, is £29 for one night. If you stay longer, on the second night the price comes down to £24.

...The place to yourselves...

If you want to make a Group Booking and have the place to yourselves, you can reserve all three rooms for a total of £104 for bed and breakfast, which works out at just £26 per person. Again, if you stay longer than one night, the price falls, allowing you to save even more on the standard rates.

We can also offer a Full Board option, which includes tea and cake on arrival, two-course dinner, breakfast and packed lunch at £46 per person for a standard rate one-night stay, falling to £41 for subsequent nights. Please note that, because we run a day-time tearoom, last orders for dinner is 7pm for residents. Although we are unlicensed to sell alcohol, you are welcome to bring your own wine or beer to enjoy with your meal. We'll provide the glasses! Our Full Board special offer must be booked in advance.

If you’re staying for two nights, why not consider a Best of Yorkshire Special Break, which includes a Luxury Yorkshire Afternoon Tea for two in our tearooms or tea-garden? There are more details on our Special offers page.

And if you are able to travel to West Winds using public transport or a bicycle, you can opt for a Green Reward Special Break, which gives you an attractive discount and the chance to have a tree planted in the Dales in your name! See our Special offers page for further information.
