If you’re looking for homely bed and breakfast within an old stone cottage in a beautiful and quiet Dales setting, with hearty Yorkshire food, West Winds is very likely the place for you.
...Pot of tea and home-made cake...
Staying at West Winds is more than just a bed for the night. When you arrive, we provide a complimentary pot of tea and home-made cake in our tearooms and in your room you’ll find fresh flowers, a free sample box of Yorkshire-made Whitaker’s chocolates and a help-yourself bowl of organic fruit. In the morning you can have a full cooked breakfast (English or vegetarian) or a continental option, served in our tearooms at a table set with bone china on a hand-embroidered cloth.
We have three guest bedrooms:
Our double room looks out across the valley towards the fells above Redmire Wood. It is full of character with some fine old furniture and watercolours of Dales scenery by local artists. A television helps you to keep in touch with life outside the Dales, if you want to… The price for the room, including breakfast, is £54 for two people or £32 for one person.
The twin room is at the side of the house and is done out with pine furniture and, again, watercolours of local Dales views. It has two single beds. The price for the room, including breakfast, is £50 for two people or £30 for one person.
Our single room looks up towards Buckden Ghyll in the direction of Buckden Pike. It’s ideal for solo walkers and has framed photographs of local scenery on the walls. The price for the room, including breakfast, is £26.
...Fresh organic milk...
All rooms have central heating. There is a wash basin in your room and a shared bathroom is close by. A tea/coffee tray allows you to make a drink at any time, for which we provide fresh organic milk.
If you’re staying for two nights or more, you can save money through one of our Special Breaks or Winter Breaks. And if you’re coming as a family or group of friends and want the place to yourselves, you can book all three rooms at the Family or Group Discount price of £110, which works out at just £22 per person.
In-season we can offer High Tea or Early Dinner in the tearooms (open Wednesday to Sunday between March and October; last orders 6pm). If it’s a fine evening you can sit out in the tea-garden, take a stroll down by the river or try Dales beers in the Buck Inn.
We can also fill up your flask for the following day with a hot drink from the kitchen, free of charge. If you would like a packed lunch, we can provide a choice of sandwiches with buttered scone, home-made cake and fruit.
...Wildlife books...
You’ll find plenty to read at West Winds, including a range of local guides, wildlife books and light reading, plus the latest copies of the Yorkshire Post and the Dalesman in the tearooms. Our most popular book seems to be The World’s Best Doctor Jokes...
We hope you’ll agree that West Winds is ideal for a restful stay. We are situated in a quiet location away from the main road and can almost guarantee a night silent of traffic and other urban noise. Outside are dark night skies unspoilt by city-glow with, depending on the weather of course, panoramic views of the stars.
Naturally walkers and cyclists are always welcome at West Winds and drying wet clothes above the Aga is one more of our specialities.
