Set in an attractive village at the very heart of the Yorkshire Dales, the tearooms at West Winds offer home-cooked specialities that combine Yorkshire tradition with good value, using local, seasonal, organic and Fairtrade ingredients wherever possible.
West Winds Yorkshire Tearooms take much of their character from our 19th century stone cottage with its delightful flower garden, set against a backdrop of fell and dale scenery that is forever Yorkshire.
...Home-made at West Winds...
We are renowned for our cakes, all of which are home-made here at West Winds. We specialise in old fashioned favourites like Yorkshire curd tart, ginger parkin, custard tart and rich brandy fruitcake served with a wedge of Traditional Wensleydale cheese, made locally at Hawes. Some of our recipes are over 100 years old, handed down through generations of Yorkshire families. At West Winds we cater for hearty appetites and our large Yorkshire puddings brimming with hotpot of Dales lamb or English vegetables are always popular. You can opt for traditional grilled gammon and eggs, with both coming from farms in Wharfedale, or choose from a range of healthy salads, tasty sandwiches and other dishes.
In the summer, you can enjoy Lunch, Afternoon Tea, High Tea, sandwiches and cakes, or just a cup of tea or coffee, outside in our tea-garden. We’re open Wednesday to Sunday from March to October. In winter we’re open at weekends in November and December when there is a proper log fire inside to restore warmth. We’re also available for bookings for group meals and special occasions.
...Fresh flowers...
West Winds offers comfortable bed and breakfast, where you’ll be greeted with a pot of tea and home-made cake and find fresh flowers, locally made chocolates and a bowl of organic fruit in your bedroom. All for a price of £25-£27 per person, with attractive offers for Special Breaks and Winter Breaks. If you are coming as a family or group and want to book all three rooms and have the place to yourselves, you’ll get an attractive Family or Group Discount.
Set within the Yorkshire Dales National Park, the village of Buckden is the ideal place for a day visit or longer stay. You can walk on the bleak moorland above to the call of the curlew and lapwing, wander down the riverside path to watch the distinctive dipper – the 'white robin' of the Dales – or simply relax, enjoy the peace and quiet and take in the dramatic scenery of austere fells, tumbling waterfalls, flower-rich meadows and valley-side ‘hanging’ ash woods.
Personally run by Lynn Thornborrow from an old Dales family, West Winds offers a warm welcome to those who want to experience food as it always should be and Yorkshire countryside at its finest. The Yorkshire Dales is an area that touches emotions and inspires devotion, even loyalty, from those who visit it. People return to West Winds again and again. Come and see for yourself what draws them.
